FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant): with this technique, a strip of skin containing hair follicles is excised from the back of the scalp. After that, the donor strip is fragmented into separate grafts, which are then implanted. This method has many shortcomings, some of the basic ones are: large surgical trauma, the formation of scars, a low percentage of surviving grafts and unpredictability of the results, unsatisfactory result due to the frequent occurrence of a “strand” effect – the grafts usually contain a large number of hair follicles (depends on the experience of the surgical team), and the hair grows in clusters, a limited amount of donor material (grafts)
- A large intense surgical trauma
- Scars in the donor zones
- A low percentage of surviving grafts and unpredictable results
- A “strand” effect
